Arval Service Lease was created in 1989 in France as part of the ex-Compagnie Bancaire. The European activity of Arval Service Lease started two years later, with a first entity set up in Belgium, followed at a constant pace by the opening of new countries.

In 1999, Arval Service Lease was managing a fleet of nearly 137 000 vehicles in Europe from which over 80 000 in France. The birth of Arval PHH in September 2000 gave a new dimension to this very fast expansion. Indeed, this new dimension taken by the brand comes from two major events:

• The grouping of Arval Service France (Paribas) and ex-Europcar Lease France (BNP) which allowed to establish the brand as a reference in its market
• The acquisition by BNP Paribas of PHH Europe which allowed Arval Service Lease to extend even further their presence across the globe..

In October 2004, Arval PHH became Arval. This evolution led to the creation of the mention  "Member of the PHH Arval alliance" thus confirming the commercial partnership in the US between Arval and PHH.

Today Arval owns 22 entities not only in Europe but also in Morocco, Russia, Brazil, Turkey, and India. Due to the success of this strategy, Arval is pursuing its development policy by following a reasoned plan for the creation of entities or the enhancement of new partnerships, according to the market situation, market attraction and opportunities.
